Tri Training Harder hit the racing scene...

At Tri Training Harder we had a great weekend of racing on the 12th-13th April with race team athletes racing in several events both on home soil (of Portugal and in the UK) and abroad, and Tri Training Harder staff and training holiday guests taking part in a local event in Quarteira.

Elysia sprinting down the finishing chute
Race Team athlete Elysia Ridley kicked the weekend off with her first elite triathlon race just down the road from our training holiday base in Vilamoura. The ETU Olympic distance race was hosted in Quarteira where athletes swam in the sea, rode technical laps within the town and ran along the beach front lined with lots of spectators. Although the race didn’t quite go to plan for Elysia due to a couple of unfortunate occurrences, she put in a very strong performance on the bike and had the 10th fastest run split (not bad for a first race!) watch this space, there is much more to come from this one!

It was then the turn of Danny (race team athlete) to race in the men’s race in the afternoon. His entry into the race had been by last minute invitation from the British Triathlon after his storming result of 4th place at the Elite Duathlon back in the UK 2 weeks prior to the ETU race so preparation was rather last minute but an opportunity not to be missed. Unfortunately Danny did not have the chance to finish the race on Saturday and show the other athletes his fantastically fast (and freshly shaven) legs on the run but it won’t be long before he is racing again.

Race Team Athlete Danny
Sunday brought a new day of racing with race team athletes Jason and Ross competing in the ETU long course duathlon championships and London Marathon respectively and Tri Training Harder staff and training holiday athletes taking on the race at Quarteira.

Jason had a fantastic race coming in as 1st British Male overall and 5th in his age category which is a

great start to what looks to be a very promising season. Ross flew around London in a time of 02:41:00 only 27 minutes (that probably means 10k) behind Mo Farah! And Fiona, Max and Alan raced alongside training holiday guests; James Briscoe and Leman Harris in the local sprint race with Fiona winning her age category.

Well done to all those who raced this weekend for us and well done to Vicky Frosdick from our sponsored club Premier Tri who completed the London Marathon in 03:57 raising money for Bob Champion Cancer Trust.
